Hi Zorana,

Watch your toddlers awake windows and ensure he not overtired in the evening as this will make it very difficult for him to go to sleep. Try and have him in his cot ready for sleep about 3 hours after he woke from his nap to prevent overtiredness. Avoid stimulating play, tv and baths within the bedtime hour as these may also prevent him from settling. Ensure you have a consistent bedtime routine and that you settle him in the same way every evening, this will help him to understand what is coming next and to settle quicker.

I hope this helps.

Best Regards

Hi Clodagh,

You should encourage some playtime in the cot with your toddler to ensure she see's it as a nice place to be during the day. At night time I recommend putting her into the cot, show her a book and then stay with her until she settles to sleep. Once she is comfortable going to sleep in the cot, you can then say good night to her and leave the room, if she gets upset return to her and reassure her. When she has settled leave again. This will show her that although you are not staying with her, you are there if she needs you. Like any changes to bedtime, be prepared for resistance, however with patience and consistency you will get her there.

I hope this helps!
Best Regards

Hi Trisha,

This is just an old wives tale therefore there is no evidence that is actually works. I'd advise waking your baby at certain times during the day to ensure he is tired enough to sleep at night time. The maximum naptime allowance at this age is 3.5 hours.

Good luck
Best Regards

Hi Fiona,

It is harder for babies to nap during the day as his melatonin levels won't be as high therefore it is unlikely he will mix up day and night time sleep after the first few weeks of birth. If he does sleep past the required amount of time wake him gently. He will need to feed every 3 hours during the day. His maximum naptime allowance will be about 4 hours, split between 3 naps. Ensure his room is dark and that there is a little naptime routine such as a song while he is in the cot. This will help him look forward to getting into the cot as well as also knowing that this means sleep time.

I hope this helps.
Best Regards

Hi Edel,

My baby is currently 10weeks and settles well in his cot when going to sleep at night but it is hard to get him to sleep for his naps during the day. At what age should he be put in his night cot for daytime naps without mixing up day and night.

Many thanks,
Fiona

I have 18month old which is teething at the moment but I'd like to be able to just put her i her cot awake and say night night. At the moment she falls asleep on my lap in her room and then I put her down but if she isn't fully asleep she will cry when I go to put her down.
Normally she isn't a bad sleeper and doesn't take that long to put down but I also have a new born 7week old and I need my 18 month to be able go down herself.

Would love some advice on this.
Cheers,
Clodagh

For the past 2 weeks now my 7 month old son has been sleeping all day and staying up all night. My husband flipped him but it doesn't seem to have done anything as he is still sleeping all day and staying up all night. Is flipping supposed to help the same night you flip them or does it take time before you notice a change?

Hi Sherry,
If she was sleeping well maybe it did do the opposite! If you have any concerns about her I would talk to her gp, especially if you feel she goes into a trance. I don't recommend this method and see it as an old wives tale!
I hope all settles down soon.
Best Regards
